Data Analytics Senior Decision Scientist Ranking at GetYourGuide

Leads statistical analysis and experimentation methodology for the ranking team, developing measurement frameworks and strategic analytics to optimize what travelers see in search results.

Senior Hybrid Posted 19 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Change the way the world travels

Join the GetYourGuide journey to connect people with unforgettable travel experiences around the world. Millions look to us for unique activities they can trust, and it’s all powered by our commitment to make every single journey extraordinary - including yours.

Ready to unlock your potential with a community of fellow explorers? Find your next role at our Berlin HQ or one of our local offices around the globe, from New York to Bangkok. Head to getyourguide.careers to take the first step.

Team mission

In this role, you will be a key analytical partner to the Ranking team — the team that determines what millions of travelers see when they search and explore GetYourGuide. You will collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, and product managers across the entire experimentation lifecycle, from hypothesis design and metric selection through rigorous statistical analysis to executive-ready recommendations.

A core part of your work will be developing and scaling the statistical methods the team relies on to evaluate ranking changes with confidence. You will also drive strategic analytical initiatives — such as long-term marketplace value modeling — that shape the future direction of the product. Beyond experimentation, you will be the bridge between ranking’s technical complexity and the rest of the organization, translating how and why activities appear where they do into insights that product, supply, and teams across the company can act on. Ultimately, you will ensure the team is solving the right customer problems, advocate for the product to develop in the right direction, build the measurement frameworks to prove it, and create the shared understanding that enables the entire company to leverage ranking effectively.

Your mission

  • Own the analytical problems that matter most for ranking — from experimentation methodology to marketplace modeling — and turn them into solutions that directly shape the team’s roadmap.
  • Deeply understand the methodological challenges of evaluating ranking, find rigorous solutions, and systematize them into the team’s production workflows.
  • Drive the strategic analytics — such as long-term value modeling and marketplace dynamics — that determine where ranking goes next.
  • Make ranking understood and leveraged across the company, serving as a thought partner to product, supply, and leadership on how ranking can work for them.
  • Champion hypothesis-driven development and rigorous evaluation as the standard for how the team and the broader organization make decisions.

Your toolkit

  • 5+ years of experience in an analytics or data science role, interpreting data to drive business decisions.
  • Strong statistical foundation: you have solid knowledge of advanced statistical methods (e.g. causal inference, difference-in-differences, regression analysis, propensity score matching, sequential testing, etc.) — and you’ve applied them in a business context where the consequences were real. You are clear on the assumptions behind your methods, know when they break down, and can spot a flawed approach from a conversation about it.
  • Experience with experimentation at scale: you’ve worked with A/B tests, understand runtime estimation, and have opinions on when standard methods fall short. You’ve seen what can go wrong and know how to design around it.
  • Production-grade coding in SQL and Python. You’ve owned code that runs in production — whether that’s pipelines, an experimentation platform, BI tooling, or another data application.
  • Experience working with data products or machine-learning-powered applications.
  • Outstanding communicator: you write clearly, present confidently, and can align a room of opinionated engineers, PMs, and execs on the way forward. You can go deep into a technical discussion but also explain a complex system like ranking to someone without technical expertise — and have them walk away with a real understanding of it.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: this is not a ticket-taking role. You’ll need to identify what matters, frame the problem, and drive it forward.

Extras that give you an edge

  • Experience with ranking, search, or recommendation systems that drive meaningful revenue — especially in a marketplace context.
  • You have built AI-powered products — whether consumer-facing, internal tools, or productivity workflows.
  • Experience contributing to a software repository: you know what GitHub and CI/CD stand for, and the difference between pushing code to a branch and deploying it.

How we’ll make your career journey extraordinary

  • Annual personal growth budget and mentorship programs for continuous learning and development
  • Work from anywhere in the world for 30 days per year
  • A hybrid working approach with three days of in office collaboration (Mon, Tue, Thur) and two days of optional at home focus time.
  • Opportunities to collaborate and socialize with team members through quarterly team events and yearly company-wide events
  • Monthly transportation and fitness budget
  • Discounts for you, your friends, and family on GetYourGuide activities
  • Language reimbursement program
  • Health and wellness benefits

And more

And more

Headquartered in Seattle and Barcelona, we’re a values driven, fast-growing tech company focused on building safe and personalized experiences tailored to the needs of each unique pet. We’re investing in AI as a business accelerator and provide every team member access to AI tools in service of creating better experiences for our community.

We are proud to be recognized as a great place to work, having been named among the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Seattle Business Magazine and Washington’s Best Workplaces in the Puget Sound Business Journal. At Rover we’re committed to creating an accessible, inclusive, and welcoming community, which starts with our employees.

Want to make an impact? Join our pack and come work (and play!) with us.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a Director of Product Analytics to directly influence how Rover makes decisions about our product experience, marketplace health, and company strategy. This person will lead our Product Analytics team and serve as a senior partner to Product and company leaders, bringing clear thinking and strong judgment to some of Rover’s most important questions.

We need a leader who can set direction, manage managers, influence senior stakeholders, and still enjoy diving deep when the work calls for it. The right person will raise the bar for how the team frames problems, evaluates evidence, and turns analysis into decisions.

You will bring strong product instincts, practical marketplace judgment, and the credibility to influence company decisions beyond the product roadmap. You will help turn customer behavior, marketplace dynamics, and product performance into clear choices for the business, then build the team, rituals, and standards that make that happen consistently.

This is a hybrid position that has the minimum expectation to work out of our Barcelona Office in the Poblenou neighborhood two days per week (Mondays and Thursdays). For this reason, candidates must be based in Barcelona or willing to relocate.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop Rover’s Product Analytics team, including analysts and analytics managers, with a focus on judgment, technical depth, and business impact

  • Set the analytics agenda for the product organization and connect it to company priorities, marketplace health, customer experience, and long-term growth

  • Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and executive leaders to identify the highest-value questions, frame tradeoffs, and shape roadmap and operating decisions

  • Establish clear metric frameworks for product and marketplace performance, including definitions, instrumentation expectations, reporting standards, and regular readouts for leaders

  • Raise the bar for experimentation at Rover: guide test design, statistical rigor, interpretation, and follow-through so experiments inform real decisions

  • Stay close to the technical work by reviewing analyses, writing or reading SQL as needed, pressure-testing assumptions, and coaching the team on better analytic methods

  • Work with Data Engineering and Data Infrastructure to improve data quality, modeling, tooling, and self-service access for product and business teams

  • Build the habits that help analytics drive change across the company, from stronger narratives and decision forums to better education for non-analytics partners

  • Hire, coach, and grow a team that can balance deep analysis with pragmatic business judgment

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in analytics, data science, or a closely related field, with significant time supporting product, growth, marketplace, or consumer technology teams

  • 5+ years of experience leading analytics teams, including experience managing managers and developing senior individual contributors

  • Strong product and business judgment; you can move from customer behavior to company-level implications without losing the details

  • Expert-level SQL and fluency with a modern analytics stack, including data warehouses, BI tools, product analytics platforms, and experimentation tools

  • Comfort writing analysis code in Python, R, or a similar language when the work calls for it

  • Deep understanding of experimentation, metric design, causal reasoning, and the common ways analyses can mislead decision-makers

  • Experience improving data foundations, including event instrumentation, metric definitions, data quality, and analytics workflows

  • A track record of influencing senior stakeholders and changing business or product direction through clear analysis and strong communication

  • Experience hiring, coaching, and raising technical standards for analysts and analytics managers

  • Marketplace, e-commerce, subscription, or other scaled consumer product experience is strongly preferred

  • An advanced degree in a quantitative field is helpful, but not required

Benefits of Working at Rover:

  • Long-term incentive plan with a company performance-based cash payout

  • Pension plan

  • Private medical insurance

  • 25 days PTO

  • Meal allowance and flexible compensation plan (transport and nursery)

  • Gym membership

  • €450 to cover the costs associated with the adoption of a pet

  • Annual €150 wellness reimbursement

  • Flexible work hours, sometimes you’ll need to be in at certain times, but on the whole, we’re pretty flexible when it comes to managing workload and time

  • Grab snacks, fresh fruit, in our kitchen to keep yourself going

  • Regular team activities, events, game nights, and more

  • Dog-friendly office

Rover is an equal-opportunity employer committed to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and inventive environment with the best employees. We’re driven by seeing our people succeed and grow, and we work to ensure everyone contributes to their fullest potential. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to age, race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, disability, protected veteran status, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or any other protected status in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances.
