As a member of this team, you will shape the AI for Democracy Action Labâs legal advocacy priorities, building upon the teamâs strategies to date. Our legal work has included advocacy to push back against the Pentagonâs retaliation against Anthropic for standing by its red lines, litigation challenging the administrationâs attempt to chill online trust and safety work, and litigation and advocacy to stop the administrationâs unlawful collection and aggregation of Americansâ personal data and deployment of technology for surveillance purposes.

Lead and drive the development of innovative legal arguments and potential litigation approaches at the intersection of AI and democracy;
Lead the process of researching, drafting, and editing pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal filings in impact litigation;
Lead communication with opposing counsel and manage and grow relationships with clients, coalition partners, experts, and government stakeholders in high-stakes litigation and non-litigation settings;
Manage discovery processes, including informal fact-finding, document review, witness interviews, written discovery, depositions, and expert discovery;
Supervise and mentor paralegals, junior legal staff, and law students;
Write, publish, and present to key audiences on legal issues that gain significant traction at the intersection of AI and democratic governance;
Brief reporters and provide expert commentary on complex legal questions and developments in AI law and regulation, serving as a public face for projects;
Engage with policymakers, regulators, civil society partners, and the tech industry as a credible legal voice for pro-democracy AI governance.
Early to mid-career counsel will:
Lead legal and policy projects or workstreams at the intersection of AI and democracy with managerial direction on strategy and pivots;
Research, develop, and shape innovative ideas for litigation and policy strategies to advance the AI for Democracy Action Labâs goals;
Research, draft, and edit excellent legal pleadings and external-facing non-litigation products (including legal memos, primers, administrative comments, and op-eds);

Bar membership in good standing in the jurisdiction of your residence;

Exceptional analytical, writing, and presentation skills directed at both legal and non-legal audiences;

Compensation
For senior counsel, the starting salary range is $170,000 to $193,000, commensurate with the candidateâs relevant experience, capabilities and skills and in alignment with internal equity.
For early to mid-career counsel, the starting salary range is $138,400 to $157,000, commensurate with the candidateâs relevant experience, capabilities and skills and in alignment with internal equity.

* Flexible location. We are a remote-first organization based exclusively in the United States, meaning our staff work within the US and primarily virtually. We also offer shared workspaces for those who enjoy working in an office environment. In both counsel roles, team members will:
Develop and shape integrated advocacy projects to advance the mission of Protect Democracy at the intersection of AI and democracy through the AI for Democracy Action Lab, including by:
Bringing creative and high-impact litigation at the intersection of AI and democracy;
Helping build Protect Democracyâs expertise and reputation as a thought leader on AI and emerging technology law as it relates to democracy; and
Collaborating with the communications team to define and execute on integrated advocacy campaigns that advance the AI for Democracy Action Labâs goals.
Senior counsel will:
Identify, scope, and manage complex, high-stakes integrated advocacy projects to advance the AI for Democracy Action Labâs goals;
Lead and drive the development of innovative legal arguments and potential litigation approaches at the intersection of AI and democracy;
Lead the process of researching, drafting, and editing pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal filings in impact litigation;
Lead communication with opposing counsel and manage and grow relationships with clients, coalition partners, experts, and government stakeholders in high-stakes litigation and non-litigation settings;
Manage discovery processes, including informal fact-finding, document review, witness interviews, written discovery, depositions, and expert discovery;
Supervise and mentor paralegals, junior legal staff, and law students;
Write, publish, and present to key audiences on legal issues that gain significant traction at the intersection of AI and democratic governance;
Brief reporters and provide expert commentary on complex legal questions and developments in AI law and regulation, serving as a public face for projects;
Engage with policymakers, regulators, civil society partners, and the tech industry as a credible legal voice for pro-democracy AI governance.
Early to mid-career counsel will:
Lead legal and policy projects or workstreams at the intersection of AI and democracy with managerial direction on strategy and pivots;
Research, develop, and shape innovative ideas for litigation and policy strategies to advance the AI for Democracy Action Labâs goals;
Research, draft, and edit excellent legal pleadings and external-facing non-litigation products (including legal memos, primers, administrative comments, and op-eds);
Participate in and manage discovery processes, including informal fact-finding, document review, witness interviews, written discovery, depositions, and expert discovery;
Communicate in settings with significant stakes, including recruiting clients and retaining outside counsel and representing the organization with non-litigation external stakeholders (such as ecosystem or media briefings);
Participate in convenings with policymakers, regulators, civil society partners, and the tech industry as a credible legal voice for pro-democracy AI governance.
The ideal candidate brings:
Relevant legal experience, specifically:
For senior counsel, at least 10 years of legal experience (which can include judicial clerkships), with expertise in AI and emerging technology law, exceptional legal and analytical skills, entrepreneurial legal instincts, and a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical and legal questions for diverse audiences;
For early to mid-career counsel, at least 4 years of legal experience (which can include judicial clerkships), with some exposure to AI and emerging technology law or related fields (such as national security or First Amendment law), exceptional legal and analytical skills, and entrepreneurial legal instincts.
Bar membership in good standing in the jurisdiction of your residence;
Experience developing and leading impact litigation or plaintiff-side civil litigation, including managing litigation teams for the senior role;

Compensation
For senior counsel, the starting salary range is $170,000 to $193,000, commensurate with the candidateâs relevant experience, capabilities and skills and in alignment with internal equity.
For early to mid-career counsel, the starting salary range is $138,400 to $157,000, commensurate with the candidateâs relevant experience, capabilities and skills and in alignment with internal equity.

Title: Paralegal, Contract Management & Legal Operations
Reports to: Associate General Counsel

Summary
The Paralegal will provide a diverse range of legal and contract management support within the Legal Department, managing a high volume of documents, including end-to-end contract administration, ensuring contracts are accurately formatted, properly routed, and efficiently executed. This role will be responsible for tracking and organizing agreements, maintaining contract records, and supporting workflow optimization using tools such as SharePoint and Ironclad.

This is a highly detail-oriented role focused on process, coordination, and operational excellence, enabling timely contract execution across the organization.
\nThe national salary range for this position is $125K to $140K USD annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, and the actual salary may vary based on factors including experience, education, geographic location, internal equity, and market data. This position is also eligible for annual bonus, equity, benefits, and participation in the CompanyâÂÂs stock plan.

Meet the Litigation team
The Litigation team is a specialist division within LEAP focused on building software for litigation lawyers. We are a cross-functional team of legal professionals, software engineers, designers and product specialists working together to create practical, high-impact tools for law firms.
Our products span the full litigation workflow from matter setup and court forms through to AI-assisted drafting, brief generation, and client-facing reporting tools. Everything we build is shaped by real legal practice, direct client feedback and a genuine understanding of how litigation teams work. This role sits at the centre of that bringing NSW litigation expertise into the product to make sure what we build is accurate, practical and genuinely useful.
What youâll do
As the Litigation Lawyer, you will bring practical litigation experience into the product development process, helping product and engineering teams build better tools for lawyers working across general litigation. Youâll report to the Litigation Vertical Manager and work closely with other lawyers in the team, including an experienced Victorian litigation lawyer.
You will help improve existing functionality, shape new workflows, and contribute to smarter AI-assisted drafting and process tools, working closely with and supported by our product and development teams.
You do not need to have worked in legal technology or product before. We know this may be a new kind of role for the right person. What matters is that you are keen to learn, open to working closely with clients and internal stakeholders, and excited to collaborate with product, design and engineering teams. We will provide training and support to help you succeed in the role.
To make this happen you will
Collaborate with product managers to design and prioritise litigation features based on client feedback, market trends and business needs.
Provide practical legal insight into workflows, documentation and court processes to support accurate, useful product design.
Test and review functionality to ensure it meets the real-world needs of law firms.
Work directly with clients to deliver training, gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve their workflows.
Refine software functionality to reduce friction and streamline the way litigation matters are managed.
Keep across developments in broader litigation practice to inform future product enhancements.
What youâll bring
3+ yearsâ PQE in litigation, with broad practical experience across NSW litigation and ideally some exposure to federal litigation.
Experience across a range of contentious matters, with a strong working knowledge of litigation procedures, court processes, document workflows and the practical steps involved in running matters from commencement through to resolution.
Strong drafting skills and sound legal judgment, with the ability to translate legal process into clear, practical and usable workflows.
Experience in, or a willingness to learn how to work across legal, product and engineering teams in a technology business.
An interest in working directly with clients, gathering feedback and helping shape better litigation workflows.
An interest in legal technology, automation and the future of legal practice.
